since my church pastor started the mini series on relationships, which seems like Marriage 101, I've really enjoyed every minute and learn lots of stuff from it. in this post i turn the focus onto the other side of the fence, people who choose to remain single for one reason or another. below is an article i found on online newsportal, and its thought provoking. do read.:)
Why some choose singlehood
FEB 14 is Valentine’s Day, and it is a good time for people to ponder the significance of this celebration and examine the reasons why some people prefer to remain single rather than get hitched.

People stay single for many reasons, and it is usually more out of circumstance than choice, although sometimes it can be a combination of both factors.

Here are a few reasons why some remain unmarried:

Bad experiences
Bitter experiences in the past, such as nasty quarrels and fights, divorce and the pain of being a single parent, might convince people to remain single.

Demanding parents
In Asia, it is not uncommon for parents to discourage their well-educated daughters from marrying men with lower educational qualifications.

Social mismatches
Men who are not well-educated and financially stable have problems finding local spouses, and if they are unable to find foreign brides with more modest expectations, these men might resign themselves to singlehood.

Filial piety
Young people may forgo marriage to look after their aged parents either out of filial piety or to accede to their parents’ demands.

Religion
Celibacy is a requirement for those who want to fulfil their vocations as priests, nuns or members of religious orders which require them to stay single.

Aside from the reasons cited above, there is a group of young people who would rather focus on enjoying life rather than marrying and settling down.
Many young, energetic singles live by the philosophy of “Work hard, play hard”.
Material comforts and pleasures are their main priority, and they have little time to think about marriage and children.

A drawback to this lifestyle is that they might find themselves without a companion when they reach old age.
For those who have taken a different route and are about to get married, they should cherish Valentine’s Day as a special day for them to express their love for each other through understanding, forgiveness, sacrifice and devotion.
There is no need for an external show of love through the presenting of expensive gifts.
Love is not measured by the monetary value of gifts, but by giving of oneself selflessly.
I wish all couples a happy Valentine’s Day.

NZJ! Remember in RI we were discussing about the types of re-combinant DNA therapy that people were testing that resulted in tonnes of weird defects and worsening of cancer conditions? Like they use those virus shells to introduce the desired DNA into people?

Seems switching the genes on and off are a more probable solution now compared to replacing the genes entirely. I wonder when they say the gene is switched on/off, do they mean for the entire body or only the affected part? It'd be pretty phenomenal if it's for the entire body. BUT as usual, you don't know how much u can trust these studys and research reports. As the saying goings, there's lies, damn lies and then there's statistics =p

Healthy lifestyle triggers genetic changes

WASHINGTON - COMPREHENSIVE lifestyle changes including a better diet and more exercise can lead not only to a better physique, but also to swift and dramatic changes at the genetic level, United States researchers said on Monday.
In a small study, the researchers tracked 30 men with low-risk prostate cancer who decided against conventional medical treatment such as surgery and radiation or hormone therapy.
The men underwent three months of major lifestyle changes, including eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes and soy products, moderate exercise such as walking for half an hour a day, and an hour of daily stress management methods such as meditation.
As expected, they lost weight, lowered their blood pressure and saw other health improvements. But the researchers found more profound changes when they compared prostate biopsies taken before and after the lifestyle changes.
After the three months, the men had changes in activity in about 500 genes - including 48 that were turned on and 453 genes that were turned off.
The activity of disease-preventing genes increased while a number of disease-promoting genes, including those involved in prostate cancer and breast cancer, shut down, according to the study published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
The research was led by Dr Dean Ornish, head of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute in Sausalito, California, and a well-known author advocating lifestyle changes to improve health.
'It's an exciting finding because so often people say, 'Oh, it's all in my genes, what can I do?' Well, it turns out you may be able to do a lot,' Dr Ornish, who is also affiliated with the University of California, San Francisco, said in a telephone interview.
''In just three months, I can change hundreds of my genes simply by changing what I eat and how I live?' That's pretty exciting,' Dr Ornish said. 'The implications of our study are not limited to men with prostate cancer.'
Dr Ornish said the men avoided conventional medical treatment for prostate cancer for reasons separate from the study. But in making that decision, they allowed the researchers to look at biopsies in people with cancer before and after lifestyle changes.
'It gave us the opportunity to have an ethical reason for doing repeat biopsies in just a three-month period because they needed that anyway to look at their clinical changes (in their prostate cancer),' he said. -- REUTERS

If you review the lyrics, you'll find that though parts of it are agreeable, most of it reminds you of SAFish euphemisms. Similar to most reactions, I found the clip hilarious in a cringe-inducing manner. heh. But what jumped out at me was the large difference in opinion between the earlier generation and ours; even if they were highly educated and capable. Like how many of us can bear to watch people our parent's age jumping and prancing around like that? Good attempt to connect for a huge public institution, but it smacks of the authoritarian propaganda-ish parenting attitude that the government always takes. Perhaps it has something to do with flying all the way to New York just to screw up an interview(thankfully it was fully paid for), perhaps it was walking along Greenwich in the rain depressed and alone with no empty cab in sight, perhaps it reaches deeper into what I really want and what I am working for right now. I have absolutely no idea. There's just an odd sense of emptiness in me right now. All I know is that I need to do is to continue to work harder, continue running on, because stopping means putting all my effort earlier to waste. Acceleration of commitment? Perhaps. Times like this make me realize how weak I am, how much stronger I need to get and how far I am away from how I'd like to be.

All I know now is that I need a clear answer as to what I really want before I have the strength to carry on? I've always told myself that all I want is to be happy. Is that truly how I feel and what I want? If so, why am I giving myself such a hard time and being so greedy? Or perhaps it's just getting increasingly hard to make myself happy. Like how you'd only laugh once at a joke.

I'm grouchy. Because I woke up at 730 am to get a seat in this damn 8am lecture where the prof takes attendance EVERY SINGLE class. I tried snuggling back into bed at 10am after lecture, but I was too awake by that time so I went for my next lecture which I intended to skip. N so, I found my something else that pisses me off in a lecture aside from raucous sorority bimbos who'd squawk away while opening their legs wide and putting their pig trotters on the back of your seat a few centimeters away from your face. I would have taken a few pictures if not for the anti-voyeuristic sound features of new camera phones.

Given the slow pace of the lecture, I would usually sit back and read my book, looking up to view the occasional charts and videos. All I could see today was this horrendous monstrosity:
The hair was stinky, huge, dirty looking and amazingly managed to blocked my ENTIRE view of the mother big projection screen. Aside from not understanding how a guy would ever be so vain as to grow such long hair, I'm baffled at the owner's lack of cow sense and style. I had to dance like a bangla around a coconut tree trying to see the screen. The owner also has a wonderful habit of scratching and shaking that ugly monstrosity trying to pick fleas out for a snack.

Ok. back to work that i've been putting off the entire weekend.

In a sedated sterile country like Singapore, this issue actually managed to stir up enough unrest for people to start protesting! Shows how large the anime download community is and how unfairly they feel they are being treated. Especially about how ODEX started to blackmail them with letters even before they established their right to do so. Is it true that this incident wasn't reported in local papers? Or have u guys already given up on the freedom of our press. hur hur =p

I was reading my social psychology textbook and found an interesting tidbit.

In 1960s, psychologists noticed that depression is linked to low self esteem and began to theorize that depressed people have a distorted perception of the world. They began studying the cognitive strategies of depressed people to see how those distortions arose. These studies produced a very surprising result. Depressed people don't seem to distort things very much; rather, normal people are the ones who distort. Depressed people seem to be pretty equal in taking the blame for failure and the credit for success, whereas normal people reject the blame for failure while claiming plenty of credit for success.

so now the question is: are we delusional or are we depressed? haha. neither seems like a terrific choice eh? =p

Hmmm.....one of the last articles i read in SG before I left was about how ODEX managed to get the japanese animation studios down to sg...brrr...anyone knows what's the latest scoop on it?

Anyways, I'm finally settled in at my house here, handed in that damn 30 page paper i was working on the whole of my last week in sg and changed my bedsheets. Hmm...I realised material things can make me very happy. I just bought a dark brown wooden plank to put on top of my teeny white table and whenever i come home to plonk myself in front of the desk, i just smile? hahahaa...weird hor?

Speakin of weird, i had 2 weird dreams in a row last night. First was that i dreamt i was going out with someone i used to like, then i dreamt i was escaping from home in a movie that was like a matrix mixed with bridge to terabitha/lord of the rings. like a fantastical dream with lotsa details. Kinda exciting...haha....must be the jetlag.....brrr...dun feel like studying anymore...

YES~! Finally we have a judge who is aware of technology!!! I exclaimed aloud when I read this on the train last morning. From TodayOnline.com:

ANIME distributor Odex had "no right of civil action" against illegal downloaders because it was just a sub-licensee — not the copyright owner or exclusive licensee — for most of the anime titles sold here.

[...] In particular, he (District Judge Earnest Lau) was unconvinced of the investigation method it used to uncover the IP addresses and pinpoint the alleged wrongdoers.

Glad that the judge did some homework on his own to actually read what crap "evidence" Odex has provided to the court which are just articles and FAQ information on Bay-TSP's website (the company that Odex engaged to provide the IP tracking solution) on the services it provides.

Other interesting points from the article:

Odex appeared to be the exclusive licensee for just one title, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed. (WTF!? Why are they suing people "on behalf" of other licensee then? The idea that they might be suing just for profits is glaring.)
SingNet did not engage lawyers to resist Odex's application. (Why am I not surprised at all... Grrrr... Starhub Online rocks! Consumers, start jumping the SingNet ship if you want your rights protected.)
Under the Copyright Act, "only the copyright owner and the statutory exclusive licensee … have the right to take action against copyright infringers". (Does this means that those that have paid Odex for their infringement have paid for nothing? How can they proceed from here? Counter sue Odex? My guess the main problem for this group of "innocents" is that they have already paid Odex which means that they have already admitted to their "crime". Once so, the chance of a successful counter suing is real low.)
Odex will be appealing against the judgement. (Only worries now is that the appeal would be handled by another judge who doesn't have the technical know how. Then we're back to square one again. *Fingers crossed*)

After the RIAA finished sending out a new batch of 503 "pre-litigation letters" to 58 different universities around the USA, offering to let students settle copyright infringement claims "at a discounted rate" before those claims go to trial, the group learned it was on the receiving end of a class action lawsuit. The development hopes to make a class out of those "who were sued or were threatened with sued by Defendants for file-sharing, downloading or other similar activities, who have not actually engaged in actual copyright infringement."

Single mom Tanya Andersen, a defendant in a previous lawsuit brought by the RIAA, sued the RIAA for malicious prosecution after her case was dismissed with prejudice (it cannot be refiled at a later date). Her attorney filed court documents in an Oregon federal court on Wednesday that seek to elevate the case to class action status (the first time that a judge has been asked such a request for such a case). In the complaint, Andersen alleges that the RIAA "has engaged in a coordinated enterprise to pursue a scheme of threatening and intimidating litigation in an attempt to maintain its music distribution monopoly." Andersen alleges that the RIAA has violated the RICO racketeering act and charges the organization with malicious prosecution. She is also going after the RIAA's investigative arm, SafeNet, formerly known as MediaSentry. This group allegedly "conducts illegal, flawed and negligent investigations for the RIAA and its controlled member companies."

something about that crouch

I dunno why, but there's just something about people in a crouching position that scares the crap outta me. The kind where a person appears to be bent over forward/backward, walking like sadako, or starting to stand up from the crouching position. Basically someone curved in anyway into an "n" shape. Something similar to wot my dear friend here looks like. haha. So anyways, I just got reminded of this fear of mine on my way back from my run earlier on(around 9 pm). The street lights were out for around a block along my running path and I was just running through that dark area as per normal when I spotted this figure in front of me. It appeared to be rising from a crouching position to stare at me, and for a moment I was frozen in mid step not knowing wot to do. Then after a few seconds, I managed to make out that it was just a stoopid ah neh who couldn't handle his shopping bags and put them down for a rest. Brrr...Lousy ah neh..... =/
The first time I realised this weird fear of mine was when I was climbing Bukit Timah with a friend. We were at a part where the slope was rather steep and around 300m ahead of me was this white figure bend forward walking like a damn sadako with shaky footsteps. Brrr...Turns out that she just couldn't handle the steepness of the slope.
The second was when I was in camp over the weekend. I was on duty and was in charge of lockin up the room and switching off all the lights. So as I plunged my entire surroundings into darkness at 12 midnight, this set of large eyes stared at me straight in the face as its body started to stand up from crouch. Damn camp mate hid behind the door and was just waiting for me to leave. I was seriously frozen solid for a few seconds man. sheesh. haha...anyways, here's some pics of mt faber at night....quite nice...

How's everyone getting along? When are u guys free? anytime this weekend? Get back to me yea?!

I spent a really fun week in D.C. learning about business and public policy in the U.S.. Pretty exciting program, rather inspiring too. They managed to squeeze like Senators, Congressmen, their staff, a fellow from the Supreme court and many many other people who are majors players and participants of the current administration. Really cool. There was this really smart lady who was Clinton's press secretary at age 28 and was really candid about how everything including the Lewinsky thing. haha. Rarely do u find someone who's really smart,speaks really well and extremely passionate about her cuase. I think the only thing that is stopping her from running from senator like Hiliary Clinton would be that she didn't graduate from an Ivy League school. Pity.

I have all the Mayday albums but never found this song in there, any Mayday fans out there know which album this is from? Anyways, for the first time, I watched a 同志 movie by the same name of 盛夏光年 over the weekend and was rather impressed. 这电影正因为故意打破了传统的观念,挣脱了世俗的枷锁,用了同志为主角,才衬托出了爱的简单. To emphasize how simple a relationship between two people can get, the female lead was willing to accept and be with one of the semi/pseudo 同志 male leads despite his abberrations. By using an extreme example, which in this case, sexuality, the film depicted how when a relationship is so strong and deep, it transcends gender and societal expectations. How a person can be so in love(blinded by love or not i dunno lar) with another that he/she is willing to accept everything about that person. It all boiled down to a simple love for each other, and the longing to be beside that person, how two people accept each other for who they are, not for what they appear to be in a societal/status context. My personal epiphany from this movie is realizing that wot I really really want is someone who is willing to stand by me no matter what, and I'm willing to do the same. And a simple love would be the reason why. I was hesitant previously. Now I believe I have found her. =) Haha...stoopid qiuwei, when i told her i had an epiphany after watching a gay movie, the first thing she said is"what? u think u are gay?" hahaha...stoopid chewwy =p Oh, btw, the filmography and camera angles and music of the film was really good too......
Movie aside, I really like the song and lyrics, especially 放弃规则放纵去爱, 放肆自己放空未来...sounds like somethign i'd really love to do, but no time. hai... =/ Oh, btw, did u guys know that ACS ties are by Hugo Boss? Sheesh......Ours Bibi Baba right? hahaha....

Just got back from California yesterday in the morning. Heh. Been watchin anime and drama since i came back. Suffering from post-holiday depression. Shucks.

NZJ! Did u design the poster for ethereal? I like the top part and the flower at the end of the word, reminds me of Bleach. Dunno why. haha. I kinda like the graphics in btwn episodes of Bleach.

Alrighty, here are some pictures....
First thing most Singaporean students from suburban colleges attack whenever they go travelling? Dim sum!!! =) Heh....This meal cost us like 40 USD per person. haha. The menu didn't come with prices. Be warned, dun eat where the ang mohs eat. Hahaa...The food was pretty good lar.
Heh...Funny thing, I just realised I didn't take any pictures of the shopping area in San Fran. It was a pretty nice place though. Enjoyed just walkin along the streets and chillin. Rained on one of the days I was there, so I just sat down at a coffee bean enjoying the view and called chewwy to disturb her peace. haha...rather relaxing. This is a pic of the nice pointy building I always see on Charmed when I used to watch it. haha. Look at how steep the terrain is.

Yoz, our blog has finally migrated over to the new Blogger. I've taken some time to clean up the template. Maybe it's high time we change to a new one too. Have also added a link to my blog which I have been maintaining. Did not made it public as I am not sure if it'd stick, but I think now that it'd do. Haha...

Hope you all enjoyed last years performance and are interested to come watch another from Chinese Dance. It's a smaller scale production compared to last year but equally entertaining (I *think*).

This reminds me of Lifeskills lessons we have in RI. I can almost imagine Mrs Pek going through the stuffs though I can't remember exactly what they were.

The function of the university suddenly seems so much more profound compared to just being there to fulfill our need for paper-chase. And I couldn't help but agree with the following paragraph:

Worse than that, it quite easily forgets both and devotes itself merely to the mass production of uneducated graduates - people literally unfit for anything except to take part in an elaborate and completely artificial charade which they and their contemporaries have conspired to call 'life'."

In (Singapore's) education system, it doesn't give much chance to students who fail (; though I have to say that there are attempts to reform). Therefore in some sense, it's not that the students are obsessed with winning or success, they are just trained from young to be afraid of failures. I guess this happens because parents/teachers one generation older tend to focus on academic performance rather than personal development.

Therefore educational institutions play a very important role in setting the vision and target on the education package that they want to provide for their students. In Singapore, only independent and semi-independent(?) schools have such flexibility; other schools have to rely on the direction provided by MOE. But how many actually make use of that chance to be different? Thinking back on the modules that I have taken thus far, I would say that only "Making Sense of Society" is really thought provoking and allows me to see life differently. Maybe it's because I am a Engineering student, and am not exposed to much Arts modules. But I guess you can guess my stand on how well the university is educating me.

Digress: Sometimes, I see this whole process of growing up synonymous to a worker ant in an ant colony. From being a student to a worker to a parent socializing the next generation of your very own, this is the mechanism/"work flow" impose upon us so that the society continues to function. Is it possible for us to break out of this cycle? We may, but will the society be still there if all of us does so?

So how does CNY at age 23 feel for u guys? I'm pretty sure NONE of u feel 23 right? Remember how we got to know each other at age 13 in RI? Sheesh! It's been 10 years!!! Man...I realised that time flies since primary school, but still, this is way too fast for me. haha. In fact it's pretty scary. Like how u won't get to relive your past, and u won't be able to go back, and enjoy all you've done before all over again. All u can do is to be dragged along by time unwillingly. Haha...I guess like in Tuesdays with Morrie, it's also always a Tension of Opposites. U want to move forward and advance certain things in life like your career, stages of your relationship, yet at the same time, u want time to slow down a little, so u can enjoy, relish, every single moment of precious life. This may sound a little sadomasochistic(LTKY taught us this remember? hur hur =p, anyone knows how she's doing?), but lookin back, don't u guys treasure some of the toughest times you've been through even though they were times worth endless bitching about. haha. =p

So it's kinda funny how I realise how everyone kinda changes a little bit everytime we meet, but still kinda remain the same. Like the general feel we get from each other is the same, yet at the same time, u see the difference in maturity, ability, determination and silent ambition(all kinds of ambitions included, even lewd ones, hur hur =p) Shucks, i need to go study my SAT again. Studying always limits my vocab to the lingo of whichever subject i'm currently studying. Worst is that aside from textbooks, even if i read, it's stuff related to my field of study. haha. oh well......

Do u guys have a clearer idea about wot to do with your life? Heh. When i have time to figure out how to upload stuff on my school server, i'll append an interesting article i read from a class that i really really hate, haha, hate it coz i dunno how to score on it. still an interesting class though =p

Singapore's condo craze highlights rich-poor divide

SINGAPORE, Feb 15 (Reuters) - For years, Singaporeans measured success by "the five Cs" -- cash, car, condominium, credit card and club membership.
But such trophies, especially condos, remain firmly out of reach for many Singaporeans.
While Singapore is the wealthiest country in Asia after Japan in terms of gross national income per capita, it is grappling with a widening income gap that puts it alongside countries such as Burundi and Kenya in terms of income inequality.
The 2007 budget issued on Thursday is expected to tackle such disparities through government handouts to poorer workers after a report released this week showed that 19.3 percent of Singaporean households earn less than S$24,000 ($15,600) a year.
"The five Cs used to be an aspirational goal," said Colin Goh, whose award-winning feature film "Singapore Dreaming" showed how such aspirations can shatter family relations.
"Now, Singaporeans regard them as essentials, and if you're of a certain class, practically an entitlement. Having the five Cs is no longer a sign of attaining entry into the elite. Rather, the absence of the five Cs indicates one's inadequacy," he said.
EXCLUSIVE CLUBS
True, some of the Cs have become more attainable.
Banks, increasingly eager to earn fat fees from consumers, are falling over themselves to offer cash advances and credit cards, although in the case of DBS, the country's biggest bank, customers need to have an annual income exceeding S$30,000.
Prices for club memberships and cars have also declined. But the entrance fee for the 160-year-old Tanglin Club, a relic of the colonial era, still costs S$20,000.
Moreover, exclusivity matters.
A few years ago, some people who had signed up to join Raffles Town Club sued when they discovered that the club had let in many more people than they had been led to believe, making it far less exclusive.
Even the two magazines which cater to the city-state's affluent -- Prestige and Singapore Tatler -- got into a legal spat over which was the market leader when it came to reaching the rich and famous.

CONDO CRAZY
Perhaps the most desirable of the five Cs is the condo.
Demand for these is so hot that long queues form outside the sales offices at new apartment launches.
Potential buyers are willing to pay as much as S$4,000 just to have someone line up on their behalf; others sleep on the pavement overnight to ensure a place near the front of the queue.
Entire blocks of luxury flats sell out in a matter of hours at the top locations, including a refurbished complex consisting of twin towers -- one in gold, the other in silver.
Last year, prices for uncompleted apartments in prime districts surged 25 percent amid frenzied buying from wealthy Singaporeans and foreigners.
"Home to 46 of the most luminous families" is how developer Sime Darby describes its luxury condos -- which cost up to S$5 million (US$3.25 million) each -- on a streetside billboard.
For that, residents can use an infinity pool, sky gym, and spa-in-the-sky, and are close to "prestigious residential neighbours, elite schools, notable five-star hotel, (and) exclusive private clubs," according to its website.
HOMELESS
Yet the majority of Singaporeans live in government-built Housing Development Board, or HDB, apartments where there is less scope for making such big investments gains.
These homes are built to a high standard and, in terms of amenities, are vastly superior to some of the public housing available in the United States and Britain.
"Public sector housing prices haven't moved very much, it's stagnant, which means that it's difficult to realise capital when you are retiring," said Chua Beng Huat, an academic and authority on Singapore's housing policy.
Just how difficult that is can be seen on Singapore streets, where it is increasingly common to see elderly people trying to make some money by selling small packets of tissues or cleaning tables in cheap eateries.
The Straits Times newspaper reported last month that some Singaporeans were so poor they could not even afford public housing and were therefore homeless.
"It's definitely a problem that the bottom half of the population where the income growth has been very very weak, these people are extremely vulnerable to economic restructuring and these are the people who really do need help," said Manu Bhaskaran, an economist at Centennial Group.

Hey,

How have u guys been? First few weeks of school damn busy already. Sian. Liew....had rather disappointing times lately. Had two interviews with banks so far and didn't even make it past the first round. The only one I did get through was for HK...hopefully I go all the way for that one. Or even better, for one of the banks that I'll interview with this coming monday.

Anyways, my main point was to relate to you all a freaky experience last night at 4-5am. Haha. I was woken up by the sound of water dripping rapidly and was wondering wot on earth it is. Then I went to the kitchen and turned on the lights and my kitchen was flooded with black water. The water was gushing out like oil from the sink drainage like in those horror movies i.e. Dark Water, the Japanese Horror movie. Did we catch that one together too? So no matter wot I did, the water did not stop gushing, so I decided to take the lift down to security and see if they can help. The lift took forever to come even when no one is using it so late at night and when it did, it brought me all the way up to the top of the building and nobody was there. Damn freaky and got the 一阵阴风 somemore. Liew....So anyways, it seemed like the beginning of a horror story, but thankfully it ended there. Haha. So the nice security lady got the plumber to help me repair wotever was wrong with the drainage. I fell asleep while the guy was workin on it and was kinda panicking at first coz I was worried it'd affect my mood for my interview today. Then this morning I got another unexpected call from HK for an interview. Man, I hate it when they dun tell me when they are calling. But thankfully, the guy was nice and I hope I did ok coz he said someone else will be calling me soon(I suppose they usually reject pple through email coz it's easier). hur hur......So we'll see how it goes. Wish me luck guys! =)

Now, I just hope that I will be able to handle the disappointment of not getting an internship this summer(touchwood) if it really comes to that. =p
Read some friends blogs and started realizing how narrow minded I'm becoming as I get caught up with this whole recruiting frenzy. I realised that I am missing out on learning alot of new things, picking up alot of skills and other neat new stuff and basically personal growth by being so focused on trying to land a sweet internship this summer. I really hope to grow into someone I would respect for his character, skills, drive, wisdom and intellect. We shall see 10 years from now. Hah. For now, back to the damn applications. And I tot I saw the last of them after my business school applications. Guess that was only training for job applications. Damn.

I know alot of you prolly read or heard the speech by steve jobs, but here's a paragraph that I would find most applicable right now.

On retrospect, I've never regretted any instance in my life when I worked hard, no matter what the result was, but I do kinda regret some phases of my life where I should have worked harder. Conclusion? I should ALWAYS WORK HARD. But I'm so freakin lazy, like I was telling chewwy the other day, the only reason I work hard is so that I can be lazy later. Haha. Easy to say, hard to do. Yay! I just finished my Finance exam which I was panicking over last night. I was workin on some data gathering last night till 4am, and I woke up automatically at 830am this morning feeling absolutely refreshed? How?????? The answer is this:
I was TOTALLY KNOCKED OUT by it for 4 whole hours. Dun think that even the fire alarm would have woke me up. Seems like it's not the amount of hours u sleep(I average 10 hrs daily) but how well u sleep. Man....This stuff makes me sleep better than alcohol, damn dope...Hope I dun get addicted on it for a GREAT night's rest....

Man....I just read this article on CNA website. Kinda shocked when I saw the picture.
Here's an excerpt I found pretty amusing:

Hey guys, all busy with muggin and exams? or Haze getting to u all? heh.

Anyways, I went Toronto over the weekend. drove 5-6 hrs there went a bit crazy. Set my cruise control at 105 MPH, coz they electronically limited the max speed of this car. haha. Got into the inital D mood and drove at around 80-90 mph even on a tight single lane road under contruction with concrete blocks flanking the side. Think I was really crazy. Haha...dun think i'll ever try that again man...too dangerous. could feel the car shaking and losing grip on the road. Thank goodness I'm safely back in one piece. Haha. And thankfully I slowed down at this stretch of road where the Canadian police were camping at, if not I might jolly well be in Canadian jail right now if laws are like USA. If you double the speed limit and get caught, you go to jail here. haha.
And by the way, this is the car rental place at Niagara Falls coz our tire went flat on friday night when we reached NF.
This cost us half a day's worth of time in Toronto. Darn flat tires. And damn empty fuel tanks. We kinda rolled into a petrol kiosk on a tank beyond empty man. Thank goodness the car didn't die on us while we were on the highway man. Can't imagine walking for miles on a Canadian highway to buy petrol. Haha......Ok, here are some pics.

after a 1 hour drive threatened by an empty tank, we finally reached toronto. walked around the downtown area, and tot their esplande would be exciting. turns out it was pretty empty on saturday evening.

nice sunset. went to chinatown to stuff myself after this. heh. no more pics liao......show me how sg looks like with the haze now man. haha =p
